Valentine's Day...

Elsie had the great idea of making little Valentine mailboxes after reading some Valentine story books...the only boxes we could find were Kleenex boxes...full ones! So I did what any reasonable mother would do...took all those Kleenexes out and stuffed them in a drawer so we could make our mailboxes! We found tissue paper and wrapping paper and lots and lots of tape to cover the boxes...
We made cut out hearts out of coloured paper, used some valentine ribbon and foam letters...and lot and lots of tape again! Elsie's mailbox...not quite sure why she wanted to put all her hearts on upside down...but it looks great to me...
James mailbox...maybe mommy helped him decorate his mailbox just a bit...
We celebrated Valentine's day on Sunday afternoon rather than Monday so Daddy could be part of our celebrating...We had lovely chocolate cupcakes with pink frosting and lots of purple sprinkles...so tasty...and a dinner (yes, after cupcakes!) of BBQ ribs, potato salad and veggies...super tasty...
Elsie found a valentine from her brother and mommy and daddy in her box...and some candy treats and a special Valentine gift...the new Ramona and Beezus movie! She loves that movie...and has her favorite parts memorized! She was quite happy with everything in her mailbox...
Valentine from Mommy and Daddy...
When Elsie opened up the Valentine from her brother she hopped off her chair and gave him a hug saying, "Thanks Brother, I love your Valentine the most!" Awwww...she really adors her brother and it just melts my heart...
James was really more interested in eating his Mum Mum cracker than opening his mailbox...he opened a Valentine from his sister and mommy and daddy one candy sucker and a his own special gift...a play telephone. He just tried to eat the cards...
Then we opened up his ring sucker! That Mum Mum cracker was forgotten and it was all about that ring! We actually only gave him a few licks and took it away...because we are bad parents like that! I am a firm believer that babies don't need junk to eat...unless it makes for a cute picture!
Elsie picked out a little Gumball dispenser for each of her aunties and uncle...so we had to get one for her also...it is super cute! We have since found gum everywhere...wadded up and stuck in crazy places. The Gumball dispenser is now hidden away in the pantry...at least until she finds it!
The remainder of our Valentine celebration was spent outside...enjoying the warm weather...sledding and ice-skating. (pictures to follow soon!) The next day Elsie, James and I headed over to the Aunties for a Valentine exchange. I love the little card for James...Hyper...James, Hyper? Never, haha!It is a week later, the kids have been sick...so the Valentine's decor is still up. The cupcakes have all been eaten...we are now using the cupcake stand as our valentine card stand...perhaps we will get it all put away this week and if not we will enjoy looking at the notes full of love...
