Getting Better...

Last week Elsie had her follow up appointment with the specialist for her broken leg...it was a very good appointment! He felt that at her age and due to what the break looked like a cast was not necessary! So she gets to keep her splint on for a few more weeks but can take it off when she wants to...which is perfect in summer weather and pending chickenpox!
Elsie will be going back for more xrays in a few weeks...hopefully at that time her leg will be totally healed. For now Elsie is doing quite well and learning to scoot and crawl along rather fast to get to where she wants since she cannot walk on it yet. When the doctor said she did not need a cast she was super happy...because than she could wear her undies again! (Her splint was so big around the only that fit was a pull-up!) Life is all about the small things!

More Henna...

Last week Laura did some more Henna to my belly...I love having her decorate my belly with Henna...
My belly looks very small in these pictures...trust me is not nearly this small! We are now at almost 32 weeks...we are on the "down hill slide" now...only a few weeks left of being confined to bedrest! Elsie was only 3 weeks early and I feel confident that we will duplicate that this time...so long as James doesn't have plans on having an August birthday I will be quite happy!

Cuddle Time...

Elsie and auntie Emma...what a pair...they lay on the floor or couch together...one nursing a broken leg...the other trying not to scratch from Chickenpox!

A few weeks ago my cousin's children had chickenpox so we exposed Elsie and Emma on purpose so they would get the typical childhood disease...but for some reason only Emma broke out in the pox...now Elsie is getting exposed super good from Emma...so hopefully Elsie is break out in 2 weeks. They trade popsicles and suckers, drink out of the same water cup, sneeze on each other, spit on each other (because it is Fun, ya know!)...so there is no way that Elsie is going to get out of getting the pox! Chickenpox has become a rare thing to get these days...seems everyone is vaccinating their children for it...since we choose not to vaccinate we wanted to get them immune to the disease the old fashioned way...

Bathing Diva...

What a sun tanning little diva! I am not really sure why her dress is pulled down...I think it was such a hot day and Elsie felt this was just much cooler!
Love those big aqua sunglasses! When Elsie was still getting the hang of having a big heavy splint on her leg her favorite thing to do was lay outside and do her best to play with her little barbies...one day she discovered how to cross her splinted leg over the other...the first few times she did this she could only do it for a short time because her splint is so heavy...now she is quite a pro at it!

Being that we are still staying at Gramie and Papa Wayne's house there is never any shortage of people to keep Elsie company...even the rough uncle Colter shows his gentle side and loves to bring Elsie where is wants to go or bring her whatever she wants...I think she has everyone wrapped around her little finger...just as a little diva should, I guess!

Water Fun...

Cast or no cast when summer is here you just can't hold a child back when they hear the words Water Sprinkler! The kids all talked it over and figured out a good way to let Elsie in on the fun...a little saran-wrap and duck tape around the splint and an old stroller to push her through the sprinkler...Elsie was more than ready...
All smiles on a hot day...love that big splint! The saran-wrap plan worked well...nothing got wet at all!
What fun! I love how thoughtful Elsie's aunties were being to push her through the freezing cold water...even after they were cold and Elsie wanted to continue playing...

After awhile Elsie requested to be wheeled over to the sprinkler and just sit so she could hang her head over the stroller to get her hair wet...when that got old the kids gave her cup and she would fill it with water over over again and dump it over her head, drenching her head and face...all that from a girl who will not have her hair washed in the tub for fear of water in the face! I should have just brought her out the shampoo, I think!

Weekend in Bed...

Last weekend since Elsie had a broken leg, I was on Bedrest and Jon had Ehrlichiosis we spend most of the weekend laying in bed...Elsie thought it was great fun to play in bed all day...some "special" not played with very often toys kept Elsie busy for a very long time! Looks like my idea of rotating toys and keeping some put away for special occasions works well!
After awhile it seemed that Elsie's toys took over most of the bed...so Elsie's Playmobile people forced Jon out to the couch for a nap...
What a happy girl...I don't think she even notices her leg anymore!

The Broken Leg...

On Thursday Elsie was jumping on the trampoline and she landed funny on her knees...and it resulted in a trip to the ER...and a broken leg! Thankfully the break is just below the growth plate and was a clean break perfectly in alignment.

Elsie was in pain and did not want anyone to touch her...so she screamed pretty much the entire time while the splint was being put on...

Things were a little bit better after getting back to Gramies...especially since a bag of Skittles were waiting!

Everyone was swarming around Elsie and taking care of her every need...

Poor girl...what a way to start the summer! For now she just has a splint on and Wednesday she will be getting the cast put on...The first night with the splint on was terrible...I think we only got a few hours of sleep...today is much better and she is learning how to scoot along. We have an umbrella stroller that we push Elsie around in...she is being such a good sport about it all!

This is an awful picture and cannot believe I am posting it...but this is the story of our life right now...and all the junk on the floor belongs to Elsie and I...I am waiting to be kicked out of my parents house for being far to high maintenance and forever leaving messes everywhere! What an eventfull week...hopefully this next week will be a little slower! Just a quick note...this evening Jon was diagnosed with Ehrlichiosis!
One more little note...one time my uncle payed my mom quite a complement by telling her "someone is always getting hurt around here!" You might be wondering who in their right mind would think of that as a complement...in our family we live life to the fullest...sometimes acting a little crazy and wild...you will never find the typical "helicopter mom" at our house! The best way for a child to learn is through exploration and often times that means getting hurt along the way...but that is just life! I am sure this broken leg is just the first of many in Elsie's life of exploration! Elsie is still asking Jon for her own trampoline at our house...and I am sure it just a matter of time before Daddy gives in!

A Little Lovin'...

Getting a little Lovin' from Papa Wayne...When Jon is gone Papa Wayne is Elsie's hero...she thinks he can make everything better!
Papa Wayne likes to spoil the 3 little girls...he will often come home from work, pick up the kids and bring them to the gas station and let them each pick out a special treat...what could possibly be better than that!?
And most nights he brings the girls on a nightly 4-wheeler ride...just because he likes to make the little girls happy!
Just had to throw this one in...Papa Wayne was mowing the lawn and Elsie just had to ride along and help steer!

Our Week in Review...

Since Elsie and I have been at my parents and they don't have high speed I only get to blog on weekends...so here is our week in photos...Oliver wearing his cool shades...I just love his hair! Such a cutie...
Love how Elsie wears her flip flops...whatever foot and between whatever toe! She will walk around like this forever!
One afternoon Elsie came to me and ever so sweetly asked if she could please go "muddin" with Papa Wayne...so she put an old shirt on and away they went...however when she came back with mud on her arms and face it was the end of that! No more "muddin" for this girly girl I guess! At least not until the next rain!
Lots and lots of sandbox play...I think they have even snuck the water hose in the sandbox more than once!
If Oliver could talk I think he would be asking for his own little sand box...
Lots of time was spent in the side yard lounging in the lawn chairs and visiting...I have a pool lounge chair that lays down so my bed rest can continue while enjoying the fresh air and sunshine...
A harassing little brother trying to run his muddy 4-wheeler into me! Sometimes things just a little crazy around here...

Cousins...

Last week Ana and Oliver came for a visit for a few days...we all had a great time...and all the kids really enjoyed spending time with Oliver...
Oliver, Luke and Elsie...
My child is the one on the end...in the pink shirt...NOT the one poking out the eyes on the baby! (Sorry Ana I couldn't resist!)
Oliver had quite a thing for Luke!
I think Elsie is trying to figure out what in the world she is doing sitting with these crazy boys! I think she needs a girl cousin for a change...(hint, hint sisters!!)
Elsie and Oliver...reading books together. Elsie was expecting Oliver to be a small baby that she could hold on her lap...turns out he is almost as big as her!
Sweet cousins...

Getting Ready...

I think we are all ready for James to arrive...we do need to get the bassinet and swing out of the attic...but we will wait a little longer for that. Several weeks ago the Doctor told me to get things done as much as possible because she could guarantee I would be bedrest...and I am quite glad I took her advice! The weeks before bedrest I was busy finishing sewing a few things...like a new peanut sling...I love the fresh green colour. I used a pink peanut sling for Elsie and Lilly...but a boy cannot be seen in the colour pink so we made a new one! I love these slings...they are super comfortable and easy to use...and a perfect way to cuddle while being able to use both arms!
The other big project was a new white bumper for the moses basket...I didn't have a pattern so I am quite pleases with how well it turned out. I bought the basket at Once upon a Child but it had a pink bumper...and I really wanted white. I don't plan on really using the basket much...I just wanted the basket with a white bumper for some photos I am planning doing of James. Jon thought I was crazy going through the pain of making a new bumper for one photo shoot...but some times when a creative urge strikes I just cannot stop...especially when it involves photos!
These adorable little shoes came in the mail this week...some super cute Robeeze shoes for when James is ready to start walking...Elsie lived in her Robeeze shoes so we had to get some for James. They are the best for learning to walk!

Daddy Time...

Jon has been home all week...so Elsie has gotten plenty of Daddy time in! Every time Jon goes outside Elsie follows right behind him...even if it is just out to get the mail. And every time Jon goes up town Elsie is always ready to tag along. Yesterday Jon and Elsie went outside to put the primer on Elsie's new sandbox...next weekend's project will be to paint it red and fill it with sand. Elsie cannot wait to dig and dig in the sandbox...I think every child needs a big sandbox with lots of sand to dig big deep holes...and a water hose to make plenty of mud!
While Jon painted Elsie sat on the patio and watched him...(and I used my 5 min that hour to sneak out to take some pictures!)
Can you tell that this child's Mama is not able to do much right now...just look at that wild and dirty hair...and the funky clothes she comes up with to wear! Jon is a normal Daddy who does not care at all what Elsie is wearing...one day he brought her to the store wearing rainbow stripe shorts (that were far to short!), thick ivory tights, and a purple and green stripe shirt with an orange and yellow stripe sweater on...oh and red sparkly shoes! Just for the record I never let her go out and about with out a matching outfit and hair brushed...why Daddy's don't find these simple things important I will never know! But I guess the main thing is that Elsie is happy...and she is!

Elsie and Auntie Emma...

Since being on bedrest Elsie and I have living all week at my parents house while Jon is out of town working...and Elsie is in her glory being with her aunties...or her sisters as she fondle calls then most of the time! While my mom was doing a little photo shoot of my belly Elsie and Auntie Emma stood in the back and watched...and as soon as we were done they came running over to the chair for their own little photo shoot!
Goofy girls...best friends...super wild and very spunky!
Always something to laugh at...and someone to laugh with...
When spring and summer are here I think the smartest thing to do is to pack away all "good" clothes...they come in the house looking like a bunch a filthy dirty little kids with sand and dirt in the toes, hair, across the face...it is amazing just how dirty a little body can get in no time at all! I love Elsie's outfit here...she is wearing one of Emma's skirts and her undies are sticking out at the top!
Oh...and no shoes...who wants their toes all covers up when spring is here!? Toes need to breath also, ya know!
They end every night with a bath...and wake up in the morning all refreshed and ready for another full day of playing outside...gotta love childish freedom!
