Fair Days...

Every year we attend 2 county fairs...one of the perks of living on the edge of 2 counties, I guess! Every year we have great plans of attending the State Fair...but we never really go...to keep with tradition Jon and I are discussing the idea of going to the state fair this year...all while knowing full well that he will be home recovering from knee surgery and a state fair is probably not the best idea! So...for now the 2 county fairs keep us more than happy!
This year Jon was working out of town when we went to the fair...we called up the aunties and said we were headed to the fair...everyone split up between my van and Ceara's car and off we went. My parents oped to stay home and have a little date night...a super rare thing for them!

Love this picture...everyone standing in a line...looking in the same direction...

What could they possibly all be looking at in such awe?

The Fire Ball ride! This was a crazy ride...fast, upside down, back and fourth...crazy! We come from a small town...and things like this are not normal around here...our local amusement park has a tilt-a-whirl as the wild and crazy ride...and our malls have no amusement rides in them...so, like I said...we are small town so this ride was fun for the kids to watch. I will say every time this ride started up there was a group of people watching...it was not just our group! After watching the ride we asked the kids if anyone wanted to take a turn...they all declined...probably a good thing since half of them get motion sick!

After taking a break to watch the wild ride we resumed our normal Fair activities...like walking through building after building of animals...a whole building dedicated just to bunnies and chickens...the very thought of it makes me want to gag over the smell! (I am not an animal person at all!)

And we always must check out the tractors...John Deere...the best kind, right?

James is a typical boy and really got into checking out the tractors...when we left we discovered that his fingers were covered with grease!

A fun picture...

This fair had some very unique animals, too. James is petting some kind of deer from India. They also had Lemurs, Camels, toucan birds...lots of very not normal fair animals...very fun to see. They even had camel rides...none of the kids wanted a camel ride...I begged and bribed and they still wouldn't go! bummer...

Group shot in the exotic animal tent...

James enjoyed looking at all the animals...but I think he enjoyed climbing the fences even more...and trying to splash in the animal's water dishes! Note that James is wearing shoes...that morning the kids and I went to town and bought him some spiffy new shoes...he loves them...they stay on his feet...9 times out of 10 I forget to put them on him...but having bare feet is what summer is all about anyhow!

While we were at the fair we ran into Laura and her boyfriend, Ryan...a nice surprise! Some of the kids were talking about "wonder if we will see Laura and Ryan" when we looked up and they were walking right past us!

Ted and Ceara shared a yummy looking Onion...lucky for them everyone else is gluten and dairy free...so no one begged them for bites! Instead everyone else enjoyed some cotton candy...like 4 bags of cotton candy! And we stopped at McDonalds on the way home for fries...no one went home hungry for sure!

Our cute little group...Laura and Ryan...I am pretty sure his real name is Zac Efron...he looks so much like him in some pictures it is crazy!Miss Elsie Jane...a bit tired and cranky...late nights and too much cotton candy will do that to ya...Love this picture...shows the true Elsie! The aunties were trying to get her to be in the group picture...she wanted nothing to do with it! She won...she is not in any group pictures. Little stinker..."Don't take my picture!" When will this phase ever end!? At least she is smiling...she was laughing so hard! The kids each picked out a game to play...carnival games are not my thing...had it not been for Ted and Ceara telling the kids they could play, I would have happily told the kids no and walked away...I am a mean mother! Anyhow...the older kids picked out a dart throwing game and Elsie picked out a duck game. Elsie pointed to the ducks she wanted picked up and Auntie Emma picked the duck up for her...not sure why...but that is what she wanted. In the end she was happy and skipped away with a shiny new wand...a very cheaply made $5 wand, I might add. Did I mention I really don't like carnival games!?

These last few pictures are so busy and full of colour...they truly represent a fair!

Each of the kids came home with a special Fair prize...A fabulous evening at the fair...good memories...bellies full of cotton candy...happy faces...what is better than the county fair!?
