A Walk in the Cemetery...

Jessica and Nick live just a few blocks away from a lovely cemetery...so this afternoon we took the kids for a stroll through the cemetery...we are not morbid people like Jon seems to think after I told him about our day...we just love cemetery's...they are beautiful and so peaceful. I love looking at the vintage head stones...they are so ornate...the ones with moss are are my favorite. I dream of finding a beautiful old headstone at a garage sale someday...Jon thinks I am terrible morbid and says he will not let me have such a thing!
The kids all thought the walk was lovely...and my mom was the official paparazzi for the afternoon. I enjoy not taking pictures every now and then!
The kids all had to pose for a picture...Elsie wanted down...she was having far to much fun walking around!
Look at me!
It never seems to take kids long to find water! The kids thought it was so neat that there were so many water spickets!
Walking around and seeing what they could see...they loved to point out the big, pretty headstones...
We all enjoyed reading the old names...Julia, Anna, James, Henry...such old lovely names. We saw 2 headstones with the name Elsie...I love old names...We were trying to find names for Jessica to use for her baby! We saw the name Lillian and all agreed that would be lovely for her baby.
Just a lovely picture...
Time for a little break...
Elsie really had no clue what we were doing...but she saw us hunched over the headstones to read the names...so I suppose that is what she is doing too!
A favorite headstone...it is lovely...
What a fun afternoon outing...now the kids will always be begging to go to the cemetery when we go visit Jessica!

i don't think walking through a cemetery is morbid at all!! i think it's actually a very cool thing. when i was a kid visiting my gramma in cloquet, we'd often go for walks through the cemetery near her home and it was always vey exciting. we'd hunt for names and dates and sometimes we'd hear stories about certain people - and my brother & i loved it!! And when you kids were little i remember stopping at old cemeteries in nevis and in lanesboro looking for old relative's headstones - you kids thought it such an adventure! once we stopped somewhere in missouri, too, and saw the headstone of laura ingalls wilder (remember that?) ha! well, maybe we really are morbid - i dunno - but we always seem to make an adventure out of any thing we all do together!! today was a fun!

and i just had to say that i agree that the old headstones are soo lovely and ornate - the more modern ones are really drab and dull and way too plain in comparison. good luck finding an old one at a garage sale - ha, that's funny!
