This was the first year that Jon and I have lived in town...and the parade route runs just 1 block from our house! However...because we just could not break with family tradition we all chose to sit in our regular spot downtown to watch the parade! Jon and Elsie walked the several blocks to downtown...the rest of us rode in my parents big van...call us lazy!
Our group just keeps getting bigger and bigger every year! This year Jon and my dad went up town a few hours before the parade to rope off a spot for us to sit...our little town swells on the 4th to the point of having no spots left to sit if you don't save spots early! This year Grandma B. and Patrick were also added to our large group...the more the merrier!
By the time we were all seated...we had over an hour to wait for the parade to begin...so the kids were entertaining themselves by watching people across the street with the binoculars...and Elsie had to try it too...for awhile she was looking through them backwards so everything looked really far away! Silly girl!
Jon picked up the "No Parking" sign to try it on as a hat...not sure why...at least he can entertain us all well!
Grandma B. is helping Elsie pick up candy...Elsie had a little blue tin pail to put all her candy in...she would slowly pick up one piece and inspect it...good thing Grandma B. and the aunties and uncle were there to help her pick up candy!
Watching the parade...
There were lots and lots and lots of fire trucks...Elsie was not sure about the noise at first...but before long I don't think she even noticed the noise!
Our attempt at a family picture...Elsie always looks fine...it is Jon we have to work with...he always is making a funny face or blinking...I think it is hopeless to get a really good family picture!

the parade was great, as usual!! i love our small hometown celebration - even if it is a little bit 'redneckish"!! (but aren't most parades a bit 'redneckish'??) and it was nice that becky and patrick were able to join us - the more the merrier!! and hopefully next year ana, brandon & oliver will come up and celebrate along with the rest of us, too.
